Deep Listening Book

Posted on Updated on

It’s been a while since I’ve posted and this post is coming a bit late, but here’s a little about a book that I made last spring. I have been becoming more and more interested in the practice of Deep Listening which was began and proliferated by the work of Pauline Oliveros. For my printmaking class last spring I decided to combine my interest in Deep Listening with mono-printing, letter-press and book-making. The book is intended to be played as a musical score.

The text reads:

Within each one of us…

There lies a sonic space…

Resond to these images,

As scores

For musical expessions

Of sound and silence.

Here are some pictures of the book, and a video of Lawrence Conservatory Dean – Brian Pertl performing it!
